About Mark Carney

Mark Carney is a Canadian economist and banker who was the governor of the Bank of Canada from 2008 to 2013 and the governor of the Bank of England from 2013 to 2020.

Mark Carney was born in Fort Smith in the Canadian Northwest Territories and studied economics at Harvard University, St Peter's College, Oxford and Nuffield College, Oxford. Carney has held various positions in the public and private sectors, including at Goldman Sachs and the Canadian Department of Finance. He was also Chairman of the Financial Stability Board and is currently Chairman and Head of Impact Investing at Brookfield Asset Management and Chairman of Bloomberg Inc. Mark is also UN Special Envoy for Climate Change and Finance and Advisor to the UK Prime Minister for the UN Climate Change Conference. He is known for his advocacy of sustainability and his work on climate risk. He is currently the United Nations Special Envoy for Climate Action and Finance and Co-Chair of the Glasgow Finance Alliance for Net Zero.
