Delia Owens is an American author, zoologist, and conservationist, best known for her novel "Where the Crawdads Sing."
Delia Owens and her ex-husband Mark Owens conducted research in Africa, particularly in the Kalahari Desert and Zambia, where they studied animal behavior and conservation. She has also been involved in wildlife conservation in the United States, particularly bear conservation. She is the co-founder of the Owens Foundation for Wildlife Conservation in Stone Mountain, Georgia. She was born on 4 April 1949 and has a background in zoology with a Bachelor of Science from the University of Georgia and a PhD in animal behavior from the University of California, Davis. Delia Owens is the co-author of three international bestsellers about her life as a wildlife researcher in Africa, including "The Cry of the Kalahari", "The Eye of the Elephant" and "The Secrets of the Savannah".
