He is the chairman and CEO of Koch Industries, one of the largest privately held American companies, which operates in oil refining, pipelines, commodities trading, ranching, and paper pulp, and has an annual revenue of about $125 billion.

As of June 2023, Charles Koch was ranked as the 20th richest person in the world on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, with an estimated net worth of $62 billion. He describes himself as a libertarian and is a member of the Mont Pelerin Society. He has founded numerous nonprofit organizations, including Stand Together, and has been an influential philanthropist for more than 50 years, supporting education, a community of organizations addressing persistent poverty, and public-policy research focused on developing effective solutions to societal problems.
