Eric Kmiec, Ph.D., is a renowned researcher in the field of molecular medicine and gene editing. Dr Kmiec has been instrumental in the development of CRISPR-based gene therapies for diseases such as sickle cell anaemia and non-small cell lung cancer. He is also a faculty member at the University of Delaware and the Wistar Institute and has been an NIH and National Science Foundation-supported principal investigator for 35 years. He has been the primary supervisor of 18 graduate students and numerous postdoctoral researchers. Dr Kmiec is also an accomplished speaker on the topic of human gene editing and its social and ethical implications. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Marshall University Eminent Scholar, the Proudford Award in Sickle Cell Disease, the Bio-Science Innovation Awards and the Philadelphia Life Science Innovator Award.
