He was born on September 3, 1956, in Munster, Indiana, and graduated with a bachelor's and master's degrees in Business Administration from the University of Chicago. He is married to Rika Yoshida, and they have children together. Joe Mansueto founded Morningstar in 1984 out of his home with $80,000, and the company went public in May 2005. He stepped down as CEO in 2017 after more than 30 years with the company, but remains its executive chairman. He has received numerous awards and recognitions for his work, including the Tiburon CEO Summit award in 2010 and the Distinguished Entrepreneurial Alumnus Award from the University of Chicago Booth School of Business in 2000.
