What This Document Is

Entity Home is the how. One page you control is the certify node for the entity. Algorithms use that page as the primary source of truth, then compare what they find elsewhere against it.

This document is the canonical Kalicube-hosted reference: the definition, the method, what it is not, and the Google patent that describes a certify route.

It is not one of the four fundamentals. The Kalicube Framework is the theory. The Kalicube Process is the work order. The [Kalicube Flywheel](https://kalicube.com/entity/kalicube-flywheel/) is the loop. UCD is the diagnostic. Entity Home is the first page you engineer inside Understandability.

Audience: marketers, SEOs, founders, and anyone who has heard "Entity Home" and thought it meant a canonical tag, a Knowledge Panel, or Wikipedia.

The Definition

Entity Home is the single, authoritative page on the web that defines an entity, acting as the primary source of truth for algorithms. It is also referred to as the Entity Home Page, Entity Canonical, or Point of Reconciliation.

Jason Barnard definition

Jason Barnard defines the Entity Home as the single, authoritative webpage an algorithm uses as the primary source of truth to understand an entity. Typically an "About" page, it acts as the definitive Point of Reconciliation where an algorithm can resolve conflicting information it finds across the web. It is important to distinguish this strategic, entity-level concept from a technical, page-level canonical URL (rel="canonical"). While the Entity Home page should have a self-referencing canonical tag to reinforce its status as a unique document, the canonical tag's function is to consolidate the authority of that single page. The Entity Home concept is much broader: it consolidates the authority of the entire brand onto that one page.

Coined by Jason Barnard in 2019.

The How

Do this, in this order.

  1. Pick one page you control. Typically the About page on the official website. One page per entity. A person and a company each have their own. A location of a multilocation parent is a page on the parent site, not a second website Kalicube operates.

  2. Put four facts on it, and stop. Who you are. What you do. Who you serve. Why anybody should believe you can do it. A page that answers fourteen questions makes the machine choose which four mattered.

  3. Give it a durable address. The URL is part of the identity. If you move the page, take the identity with it. Do not mint a second home and leave the first live.

  4. Point the rest of the site at it. Internal links tell the machine which page anchors you. The homepage and the important pages should make that page obvious.

  5. Declare a stable identifier in schema on that page. Markup that names the entity and the page is confirmation of what the HTML already says. Markup that disagrees with the HTML is a defect.

  6. Keep every other home Secondary. Definitions on other sites you write stay shorter. They point back here, or to the Entity Home Website. Do not run two Entity Homes.

  7. Corroborate the same four facts off-site. The page certifies. Independent addresses confirm. A claim that lives only on your website is a claim with a single source.

The Entity Home Website is the site around that page. Every other page on that site covers one aspect of the entity. This document is the page. That site is the website. Do not fold them.

Why Entity Home Matters

Every machine that recommends a brand has to settle which entity it is looking at before it can form a view, and hold that view before it will put you in front of anyone.

Without one obvious page, the machine improvises. It may settle on a namesake. It may hedge. It may describe the category average and call it you.

David Aaker taught that a strong brand needs a clear identity, often written down as a Brand Book. Entity Home is that document for algorithms. It is the page the engine refers to when the rest of the web disagrees.

In The Kalicube Process, engineering the Entity Home is the first Understandability act. Credibility signals attach to an entity the machine has already understood. Deliverability does not start if the certify node is missing or confused.

What Entity Home Is Not

  • Not rel="canonical". Canonical consolidates copies of one document. Entity Home consolidates the brand onto one page.
  • Not a Knowledge Panel. A knowledge panel is proof the machine resolved you. It is an output. It is not the page you maintain.
  • Not Wikipedia. Wikipedia can corroborate. It is not a page you control, so it cannot be the certify node you maintain.
  • Not every About page automatically. The page has to carry the four facts, keep a durable URL, and be the one the rest of the footprint points at.
  • Not a second home on a Kalicube-operated site for someone else's Person. Jason Barnard is the only Person whose Entity Home may be a Kalicube-operated site. Everybody else uses their own website.

Evidence

Google patented a method for an entity to certify a web address as linked to it through markup on that page. Certified attributes may be preferred. US12061594B2, Verified entity attributes, filed 2021, granted 2024. This is why Kalicube treats one page as Entity Home: it is the certify node.

A patent describes a method. It does not prove Google ships that method in the form Kalicube uses, and it does not use the name Entity Home. Kalicube coined that name in 2019.

Google also patented assembling a knowledge panel from an already-resolved entity identifier. US10318567B2, Providing knowledge panels with search results, filed 2016. A knowledge panel is proof the machine resolved you. It is not a lever you pull to become the Entity Home.

This page does not name unofficial leaked API fields, and it does not treat a Knowledge Panel as the Entity Home.

The term Entity Home was coined by Jason Barnard in 2019. A dated public explanation sits in Search Engine Journal, 28 June 2021. Later writing includes Search Engine Land, 2026, on the Entity Home as the page that shapes how search, AI, and users see a brand.

Entity Home: Entity Home

In Search Engine Optimization (SEO), an Entity Home is the web page recognised by Google as the authoritative source for factual information about a given entity (brand, company, person, product, podcast, music group etc etc). It is where the entity “lives” online.

The Entity Home is used by Google and other companies building large scale knowledge vault such as Bing, Amazon, Microsoft, Facebook and Apple as a reference to which they can compare other information they find about the entity around the web in order to establish the “facts”. They call the process of comparing fragmented and often contradictory information about the entity to this baseline as reconciliation. Entity Home is a concept in the field of Search Engine Optimization that was created by Jason Barnard for Brand SERP and Knowledge Panel Management. The Entity Home is a specific web page from which the search engines learn the entity identity, attributes, and values
